Award and Book Club

Emily White is trying to start a book club at her blog at: http://steppingintofantasy.blogspot.com/

She's a sweet gal and fantasy lover, so has a sliver of my heart. She's having a contest that reads:

"Hmm...I was hoping for some more enthusiasm for the book club. I guess I may just have to add some extra incentive. All right, here goes. I understand that for writers such as ourselves, money is often tight and time is basically non-existent, so I'm prepared to hold a little contest. I will give you from today until next Wednesday (the 14th) to send over as many of your followers as possible to commit to reading The Secret Year and participating in the discussion. The person who has sent over the most people (at least 5) will win the book. I'll pay for it and have it shipped to you overnight. As far as time goes, well two weeks is a LONG time to read a book. I'm sure you can get it done in a few days. ;)

Have your followers respond in the comments section of the previous post (here) with your name. Again, they don't need to be followers of this blog to take part. They are certainly welcome to follow, but that is not a prerequisite. I'll announce the winner on Wednesday at 9:00pm (EST), so you have up until 8:00pm that day to get your followers over here."

Nicole at http://nicoleducleroir.blogspot.com
gave me the Beautiful Blogger Award in which I say seven things about myself. This took an hour to think of. I think I've now covered everything slightly interesting about myself from this and previous awards.

1. At my job we are separated into teams with team shirts with our names of the front. My team chose to have camouflage -PINK (gag)- and I had the printer list my name as SPC Malfoy.

2. One of my daily chores is putting books back on their shelves. My cat, Snape, pulls books off my bottom shelf with his paws during the night. I've caught him in the act, yelled at him, and his response was to reach in with one paw and throw down another one. He doesn't want on the shelf. He just wants to throw my stuff on the floor. Sometimes I suspect he is the reincarnated soul of a disgruntled postal worker with their memories still in tact.

3. I have never voted. Not because I'm lazy (which I am) but because I've never been impressed by any candidate. I'm extremely cynical about the machinations of politics. I don't support any party. This goes back to my fear of people in groups I've mentioned before during an award meme.

4. About the only thing I drink anymore is sweet tea.

5. I've only had one year of a college education. I was on the Dean's List first semester then the President's List second semester (not for troublemaking I swear), but life got in the way and I had to drop out before second year.

6. When I was four, at Easter I found a dog. My mother said I could have it and should name it. I asked my aunt what she was drinking that made her act funny. She said, "Brandy." Thus, I had a samoyed named Brandy for twelve years.

7. I quote movies in an almost annoying (or maybe very annoying) way. I've a gift for remembering dialogue, and a great love of movies. Every room in my house has movie posters, except the bathrooms (humidity'd ruin them).

I'm taking a blogging hiatus for the weekend to try to get some work done on my WIP. Everyone have a great weekend!

You have got to be the funniest friend I have. Malfoy! Brandy! A cat named Snape! Pink Camouflage!

I'm totally into exclamation points these days since Nicole said not to use them.

I didn't vote until I was 32. But only then and not again until 2008.

My cat Henry (who is a girl) knocks things off the TOP shelves, like my plants, and my stuff in the bathroom, she once knocked a whole box of hair elastics into the toilet.

Good luck on your WIP. I'm off to dig fence posts, move dirt and oh yeah, mow the grass. I forgot about that until my father came by yesterday to drop off the fence and said, "You gonna mow the grass?" Didn't really want to.

Great names of your pets! I love cats, they have such personality. I can't wait to adopt a kitten this summer. We decided to wait until after vacation, since three weeks is a long time to be away from a baby animal.

Have a great weekend writing!

I once named my two cats "Cat" and "Kitty." My then-wife accused me of being unorginal.

My two cats now are named Martinique and Annimaniac. Never let it be said I don't learn my lessons! (See? I love exclamation points too!!!!) ;)

I loved reading that little list about you. I can relate about your cat (Snape! How adorable.) Mine loves knocking things over JUST to knock them over, not because she wants to sit in their place. Anyway, enjoy your hiatus!

Congrats on the award!

Are you serious about having to wear a pink T-shirt and be split up into teams at work? That sounds like my worst nightmare! I like pink and all but still...

Have a great weekend!

*flail* Why is it everyone I know seems to have zilch interest in politics? Seriously. I feel like some kind of nutjob for moderately following things hereabouts and closely following things across the pond. And do not get me started on how evile Thatcherism is and it really needs to be removed from British politics posthaste...

~ahem~ I mean, ditto on what people have said above. My cats don't knock things over for the sake of knocking them, however. They knock things over because one of them has definitely suffered severe brain damage and can't seem to do anything right (including steering) and because one likes to pick fights with the other, which results in rampant cat wars.

Enjoy the brief break.

Congrats on the award! Have a great weekend with the writing :~)

Cats are the re-incarnated souls of postal workers aren't they? That would explain why mine climb into assorted packages and envelopes. They're just checking I've stuck to regulations and used the correct number of stamps... :~D

Nick - Calm down man ;~P I'm sure there are some politically interested people out there... it's just getting a wee bit difficult over here to be excited about it all. We're in the middle of an election and it's depressing to think of all the *ahem* promises being spouted out :S

Good luck with your WIP! I'm SO sorry you have to wear pink camo. Ugh. Pink is so not my color. I love your cat's name. I have 4. Osiris, he's a cuddly little Maine Coon/Manx. I have Colby (my mom's old kitty...literally old.) And then I have the "twins": Oona and Gir. They're like mirror twins, almost and complete opposites of each other. :D

I'm so glad to have you as a follower and blogging buddy. :D

Have a great break! I know it can be hard to catch up.

I'm sorry I don't do all the blog contests and so on. No time :). But I wish you luck!

When I lived in that infamous basement apartment, I had two parakeets I named PETE and RE-PETE. Snape is your cat and Malfoy is your office nickname. I see JK Rowling had an effect on you.

I hope your weekend was productive on your WIP. I hadn't heard from you over my weekend of 12 hour each workdays, but, like you, my time has been stretched pretty taffy-thin. But I was concerned, so here I am at 3 A.M. checking that you are all right. And it seems you have been. Have a survivable week at work, Roland

Wow. I've just been given Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious as my computer check word. Sigh. I can tell it's gonna be one of those weeks.

I love sweet tea. I am ashamed to admit that I drink a pitcher of it/day. Plus my sweetened coffee habit.

I hope you are getting a lot done on your WiP, Christie.

Love,
Lola

Congratulations on the award, Christi. I think Snape is the perfect name for a cat. Snape is one of my favorite characters in Harry Potter. I really enjoyed the info about you. Best of luck with the WIP.
