Bibbity Bobbity Boo

So, I've honestly been sitting around the last couple of weeks being the star of my own self-pity party. Each obstacle in my life that I thought I could tackle with grace has crashed and burned in front of me. It pulled out the frayed rug from beneath me, and I've been floundering, folks.

Query interest: still a goose egg.

Malpractice suit: in limbo.

Job security: not so much.

Steady income: if every two months is considered steady.

Welcome to the Recession, I guess. I was doing pretty good until November and thought I was to be on track by last Monday, but things in my world have a way of coming to naught.

BUT NO LONGER.

To the people who said, "Start something new!"... I laughed at you. I thought it was a ridiculous notion that the story I've been laboring over for years could suddenly be swept aside by inspiration elsewhere.

Yet my Fairymuse Mother has visited me. She dropped TWO story ideas in my lap yesterday morning, quite out of the blue while I sat taking notes at work. I wasn't even THINKING about writing and then BAM. Two totally different fantasy worlds, plots, obstacles, and even tones. One is humorous and the other is tragic. One is third person and the other is... shock of shocks... first person. I normally hate first person, but I've got this voice in my head that INSISTS I tell it from his uninformed perspective.

So life is... okay, not good, but notably better. I hope to be back to my nonsourpuss self in no time.

First person is so much more intimate. More real. More...well, personal, I've found. It doesn't matter if it's limited perspective. That builds suspense. You learn what in Sam Hill's name is going on with the main character, through him or her. You're screaming "DON'T OPEN THAT DOOR!" or "Way to go, Protagonist Person!" alternately.

Glad the Muse dropped into see you after all. It seems counterintuitive to divide one's literary attention, to go down too many paths at once (in terms of writing); and it is possible to overdo it. But there's nothing wrong with working on a little something on the side while you're waiting for the goose egg to hatch, y'know?

Best of luck. Keep us informed.

Did you steal my freakin' muse??? Well, I guess go on and borrow her for a bit, but you better return her and go back to the suckiness. :) J/K Sort of.

Better is better than self pity party...

Postman: I usually prefer third person so I can tell more about everyone else, but this first POV charrie has such a weird way of looking at the world, I think the story is going to be loads better through his eyes.

Tiffany: That's what you get for leaving your muse in your car with your post-it-notes beotch! (totally kidding, and she's mine, dammit. Finders keepers)

Yay! I think you should submit some of your prose to paying lit mags for extra income while you write. Just saying...

Congrats on the two new story ideas! That's awesome! Wish you best of luck with whichever one you decide to pursue (or both.) :)

Glad to hear you're getting back on track. This malaise has been going around lately.

Oh, and when you're done with your Fairymother Muse, please send her my way. :)

Good for you, I'm glad you are creating. We must have the same Fairymother because she dropped my bomb on me two nights ago. Well, the story I've been trying to get out for 5 years. She finally explained to me how I'm going to do it. So.... Let us write write write!

Yay! The Fairymuse Mother... I love the jingling and tinkling sound that follows as she glides by.

I'm very happy to hear that things are looking better. And pretty please keep us updated on the happenings with these ideas 'cause it's great to hear that somebody is making progress... :~D

Christine--Glad things are looking up, and at least the rocks in your road are not still looming so large. Great news on the Muse house call; those things make a difference.

There's a little something for you over at my place, BTW. Enjoy!
