Dear Lucky Agent Contest

This is a contest over at http://www.guidetoliteraryagents.com/blog/

It is for Urban Fantasy & Paranormal Romance writers. You submit the first 150-200 words of your manuscript, and they judge you. If you write in these genres, go check them out and enter. Come on. Be brave. Get judged.

We all love a little judgement now and then, right?

It's the first I've heard of this contest. Thanks Christi :)

Did you end up doing that other contest the other day with this same agent. I was an IDIOT and didn't put the full title in the subject line. I felt like tearing my arm off and beating myself with it. :)

Wendy: You are welcome.

Tiffany: Yeah, I did that contest. She wrote that my story isn't urban fantasy. I wrote back and explained how it WAS, and she wrote back that my query needed to reflect that in the description. I guess "magical creatures have coexisted with humans for centuries" was not specific enough. *shrug* I'm starting to suspect that as original as I thought my idea was, the genre it fits in is too competitive. I'm starting to doubt my chances of publication.

See, here's the problem. My genre is never cool enough for a contest. It's all YA and Paranormal, all the time. I need to branch out...

Sounds interesting! You'll have to let us know how you do!

By the way, I read your comment to Tiffany and I wanted to butt in if I may. Have you thought that maybe your novel ISN'T Urban Fantasy, but Modern Fantasy? You've said that it's not centered around a city, but it is in modern times. I know these may seem like trivial differences, but they are different subgenres.

Just my thoughts! :)

I don't think I've ever seen a contest for crime fiction. I'm sure they exist, just never seen one. Not that I'd enter anyway. The battlefields of Query are enough contest for I.

Shame you've apparently gotten the boot, but them's the brakes I suppose.

Roxy: It's very competitive. Your genre is totally cool.

Emily: Thanks for the idea. It's hard to place my story. It has so many elements of everything.

Yeah, I got the boot for the first contest, but I'm hopeful for the second one. :-)
