Procrastination is my BFF

In fact, if there were a land called Procrastinationia, I'd totally be the queen of that place. Instead of ordering executions and demanding tax increases, It'd be decreed that scheduling events would be punishable by death or giving me a pedicure, criminal's choice.

The truth is, I need a deadline. When left to my own devices, it can take me ages to get around to something I need to do. Those of you who won critique from my contest know this is true. I'm also terribly forgetful. If I've slept since I agreed to something, I need to be reminded. Sleep erases my short term memory, therefore the premise of 50 First Dates was totally believable to me.

If anyone was expecting a point to this post, I don't have one. I was just sharing some random thoughts. I wrote a blog post a couple days ago, but blogger ate it and I got mad, cursed at it, then walked away. Now I forgot what I blogged about, so you get this randomness instead. Clearly, it wasn't earth shattering information or worth remembering, so you're probably better off.

Speaking of earth shattering, do you ever feel pressure to hurry up and get published before the world ends in 2012? I mostly don't believe it, but part of my psyche has latched onto it and knows the world with blow up one day BEFORE my release date. Let me apologize in advance to mankind for making the world end. I'm sure I have the power to control the cosmos. It's in that other 90% of my brain that I don't use often.

So, update on MSS?

Lesser Evils - pretty much abandoned at this point. I'll revisit it if I ever get an agent.

Postmortal - 26 rejections, 23 awaiting response, and at least 5 of those are going to be no response = no. 16 of those were sent in recent history, so I haven't given up on them yet.
Partial requests: 5, rejected: 4.
Full MS requested: 2, rejected: 1.

Can I be your court advisor because I definitely think I should be high up in that land. I'm definitely a procrastinator. If I've got five minutes left to complete something, why rush and start now? Right? :)

executioner?
'cuz i think i could rock the mask and robe... and we'd just never get around to the killing, but if we did i could sneak the toe- phobic condemned away with my clever distraction tactics..

I really like the new look to your blog. Colorful without being too bright.

I am the last dinosaur : I think my black cast looks elegant. But I also think there are deep philosophical insights in XENA, too. LOL.

Procrastination was an enemy for most of the great writers. It is a part of being human to drag our feet in approaching a task that is so consuming.

Have a great end of week, Roland

Oops. I meant to reply to your 2012 comment about needing to be published before the End comes.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never be published. It is akin to some in a battle accepting that they are going to be killed. It shifts the focus from staying alive to fighting well.

I write because I must. I strive to become better for the satisfaction of spinning a more effective, more evocative tale.

If I never get published, I at least grew as a craftsman and as a creative spirit. And I met a lot of great blogging friends. Not too shabby a fate.

I'd definitely have a position higher up. Maybe a lady0in0waiting, like Steena. I can get a crapload done, but only if given a deadline. I just wish self0imposed deadlines had the same power over me. *sigh*

Aw crap. I hadn't thought about that whole "world coming to an end in 2012" thing.

Thanks for reminding me. It's now one more thing to agonize over ...

Can I live in your land of Procrastinationia? I can be your minstrel sitting beside your throne.

I feel you here. Deadlines are a necessity.

Also, that 2012 thing has crossed my mind a bit too frequently to be healthy.

I think I'd like to be the court jester, otherwise known as the "Fool". How much fun would we have.

And as for the world blowing up in 2012, nah, that's just another story.

Can I be a Countess? In school, I was the late-Sunday-nighter. I'm pretty much the same now. You could come look at my house sometimes and become a believer.

I work much better under a deadline. Well, I work much better at the last possible minute of a deadline.

I have faith that your book will be published and we'll be reading it after the New Year's parties on Jan. 1, 2013. We'll have to, it will be a NY Times bestseller and we'll all have our own signed copies!

Procrastinationia... love it! I'd live there too. Since I'm feeling optimistic, I'll be the kingdom messenger, so I can travel to Productivitia from time to time. Like once a week. Or never. Okay, yeah, I'm just as bad.

I love your rambling thoughts!

If you could see my desk, you'd know I procrastinate a great deal. Sheesh! Glad I'm not alone in Procrastinationia. :)

I'm such a procrastinator, too! I'm not at the point of deadlines yet, but I think they'd both help me and stress me out. I'm working on my first manuscript, a YA fantasy, and while my own tentative deadline is to finish at least the first draft by the end of the year, it's too easy to just relax deadlines when you're the only one setting them.

Best of luck with the querying process!

i'm feeling the pressure to get published before my 10 year highschool reunion(2011!), sad huh! Would be a shame if i hadnt done the one thing I was sure I wanted to do.

No! Procrastination is MY BFF!! haha! I'm one of those who needs deadlines as well. That's why I work so well at my day job and not so good at writing. I don't have a boss when I'm writing and I can't take myself serious enough. Oh wells.
