The Soulmate Award

UPDATE!!! PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU RECEIVED THIS!!! I WANT TO KNOW WHERE THIS LITTLE GEM GOES IN BLOGOSPHERE.

Awards sometimes feel like popularity contests or chain mail, don't they? Don't get me wrong, I love getting them, but then I worry the people I send them to are all, "Oh, crap. Another frickin' award that I've got to pass out." That is why, dear friends who have sent me an award I already have, I don't repost it. I don't want to bother people with reading more boring facts about me.

So, I decided to do a little social experiment. As with anything, there is no obligation to comply. I won't sick the blogger police on you. I've created an award where you share fake facts about your followers. The experiment is twofold, as I want to see where it goes, so rule three is to ping back to this post and comment that you received the award.

This is by no means a popularity thing. It was hard to choose five people, but I still love everyone. But from reading the blogs of these followers, I think we share a common vibe of strangeness. That isn't a rule requirement for who they choose, of course. Maybe they choose five people that 'get' the mystery behind public shaving, for example.

The rules:
1. Choose five followers/commenters that 'get' you
2. Write something fake (preferably not too mean) about them
3. Link to them, and link back to this post to comment your receipt of the award

Anne at http://piedmontwriter.blogspot.com: Anne's ex-husband is a mob boss. Since the divorce, she has gone into the Witness Protection Program. Her real name is Millicent.

Nick at http://littlesliceofnothing.blogspot.com: Nick secretly enjoys Harlequin romance novels. He aspires to be the next Nora Roberts under the penname Ned Robertson.

Justine at http://justine-dell.blogspot.com: Justine won the lottery three years ago, but blew all her winnings on her collection of First Lady Barbies and Smurf memorabilia.

Lucy at http://yousayweird.blogspot.com: Lucy is currently writing a thriller about dog show contestants. They are genetically altered, and in the end turn on their masters for putting them in stupid clothes.

Mia at http://literaryjamandtoast.blogspot.com: Mia was a photographer for National Geographic, but her first love is making balloon animals. She was fired when her colorful hobby turned bad. The burst of her balloon shark startled a tribe of baboons into destroying all of her camera equipment, and they trashed the camp.

  1. Mwhahaha and OMG Christi, I'm honoured that you think I share your vibe for the weird :~D

Also how did you know about the baboon thing? The local authorities promised me they'd managed to hush any local news coverage...

So anyways, as you may be able to guess I have the firm intention of joining in this social experiment 'cause, call me nine kinds of crazy, but it sounds like a hoot and a half!

  2. Nick shall be joining this little soirée on one condition: I demand the finest wines available to humanity. I want them here, and I want them now!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Mia: I have my sources.

Nick: You're not 21. Sorry, kiddo.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Gosh darn it, he said the bribe was enough.

I forgot to ask. I take it re-nominating people is out of the question? (not-that-I-was-considering-doing-so you understand...)

And, as well as the little U21 fact, Nick, I think alcohol and romance novels are a troubling combination. Remember what happened last time? :P

  5. You two just earned -5 in coolsville for failing that.

  6. Mia: You can nominate anyone you wish. Except me.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If that's the case, I have three people to nominate then, assuming only followers. Can go pester the P-Dawg about another award, which he will do nothing about, because he is a lazy bugger. Sometimes I wonder how he's still alive. So slow at doing things you'd think his body would run out of oxygen before he decided to take another breath.

  8. Christ, YAY. That simplifies things a whole bunch :~)

Nick, I've waited patiently after the whole Koontz thing despite my itching curiousity, but now enough is enough. How on earth are you scoring these things in coolsville? I need to know for my upcoming tour of the place. I mean, why not -10? Or in fact + 25 for knowing the legal age of drinking in the US (well, "some of" anyway)? Or or, + 200 for absolutely loving the Life Of Brian? (I did LOL at the video though, so kudos on that one)

  9. Nick: You can make people up if you need to. Send a couple to agents, maybe :-)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ha. I love this idea. And I love the fake 'facts' about your readers.

Even though you don't wish to be nominated, I would like to offer up a 'fact': Christi aspires to own an sheep farm and sell handwoven woolen beer koozies. Unfortunately she recently discovered that she is allergic to sheep and is now looking into the feasibility of an Alpaca farm instead.

  11. Mia: I score based on a complex system involving planetary alignments and the moods of the overlord of Arrakis. It can only be taught by studying under the greatest masters in the history of masterdom: Mr Miyagi and Uncle Chan.

Also, the whole of Withnail & I is on YT if you wanna check it out by that means. Positively love that film.

Christi: I feel like I might just use pre-existing fictional characters if that's the case.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rainey: weirdly, I love Alpacas. I don't WANT one, but they're right up there with being llama-cool, which is pretty hard to be. Sheep, on the otherhand, are loathesome little beasts. They smell, ruin good land, and don't grow their wool pre-dyed which is very close minded of them. They come in black and white only. I want me some techni-colored sheep. I tried to tiedye one once. It wasn't pretty.

  13. This is really too wild. I like the concept however I'm unsure of the execution.

I take this award, find 5 like minded recipients who "get" me, make up fake facts about them, link to them, link to you. That's it. Do I tell my friends this is a social experiment or not? What is the outcome of the experiment?

And how did you know I was in the Witness Protection Program? Damn it, now I'm going to have to move again.

Oh yeah, I gave you another award today (Monday) because I felt bad the award I gave you on Friday you already had. I'll bet you wish I'd go away.

  15. LOL, Anne. I think you're fab, otherwise I wouldn't have given you an award. And yeah, you get the gist of it, but it's up to you on whether you say it's a social experiment or not. I mostly just want to see how far it goes, and how long it takes for people to stop passing it around.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Seriously - how did you know that about me? LoL

And I love the one about Nick. I can totally see it. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah, I get it now, passing it around. I'll do it tomorrow. It should be fun. I want to see how many people come back to your blog.

Oh hey, and thanks for the award.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Haha, what a fun award! These will be a blast to read around the blog world!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Justine: I know all.

Anne: I'll be posting my award from you later today or tomorrow, depending on my day.

Shelley: I'm sure it will come to you soon. I would have loved to have given it to more people, but I limited it to five.

  20. Hey Christi,
Thanks for visiting my blog and I did receive that award. I haven't posted on it yet. I received it from Nicole at one significant moment in time. I'll post on it later in the week.
    Thanks!

  21. Christine: You're welcome. I'm a follower now. I've no idea why I wasn't following before. I blame my short attention span.

  30. Terry: What's the first thing to go? Don't answer if it is to do with your sex life.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Christi! I love this award and wanted you to know I've received it twice now. How awesome is that!! I'm sending it off again today to five more people.

I agree, BTW, that awards can be pesky and tedious. But I really like the chance to highlight my followers, giving them exposure that leads visitors from my blog to check out their blogs. Thanks for taking that networking tool and putting a truly personal spin on it!

    Have a great week :))

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks, Nicole! I did want it to be something other than a chain letter or meme like many are. I wanted us to write about others and showcase them more than 'oh, I like them A LOT. Go read them.'

    ReplyDelete
  33. I got it. Didn't know you started it! I'm anxious to see where this goes. I'll send to some far-flung places, never fear. Thanks, madam.

  34. You're quite welcome, Postman. Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Christi--Postie passed it to me. Cool idea and I'll certainly have some fun making things up. With any luck, my post goes up tomorrow!

Looking forward to seeing where this goes too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey Christi, Jon passed it on to Liza who gave it to me. I've posted, as well. It was fun and hopefully, my honorees will find it amusing.
